I am a recovering academic. I was awarded my B.Phil (1987) and D.Phil (1990) from Oxford University and held teaching positions at the Universities of Oxford (1988-90) Hong Kong (1990- 2003) and Cambridge (2003-2011).

I resigned my full tenure in 2003 and finally left academia in 2011, after more than 20 years of university teaching.

My work as an independent scholar is now entirely funded by my position as Director and Senior Mastering Engineer at Philosophers Barn Mastering UK. The business is located on a small farm on the North Norfolk coast, where I live with five extraordinary deerhounds (three adults and two puppies).

The pic below is Charlie – long-time leader of the deerhound pack – who sadly died very recently in August 2022. He was a very beautiful dog, and daft as a brush.
